Ink and graphite pencil on paper
Just like my work “To Have” this is inspired by wedding vows. As opposed to what is depicted in “To Have” (arrival of a dear presence and the all that which comes with “having” that presence) “To Hold” works as an extension of that...it is a “having” in the long term. The subjects in the drawing have their fingers gently entangled and collaborate to create a scene that feels warm, certain, and devoted. The act of love here has been extended to mutual support, equality, respect, foresight, and knowledge. It shows lovers leaving one another entirely free while still, of course, always gently holding on.
