Description:

Virginia's headache, presents a personal vision of the creative process and it's link to pain, inspired by the life and work of Virginia Woolf. Widely regarded as one of the world's greatest female writers, Woolf suffered from migraines, depression and bi polar disorder, which she used to describe in her essays and journals. The piece examines the difficult relationship between pain, mental issues and creativity, where all of the above are linked and interfere with each other. Virginia is portrayed with vivid organic shapes coming out of her head, which depict overwhelming thoughts and ideas that bring her extraordinary visions, but cause her pain at the same time. She is so focused on her creative process that she is unable to notice joy and love on the other side of her - symbolized by the hummingbird. As most of Ola Intu's works - this piece is painted on a recycled wood panel, which used to be a part of a kitchen cabinet.
